A sail boat lies stranded in a vast desert of cracked earth with no water in sight and a deep blue cloudless sky. Along a pathway next to San Francisco bay I came across a boat that had broken loose from its mooring during a storm and was aground on the beach. I knew that image would come in handy some day. The dry cracked earth was actually a drained rice paddy I photographed in Myanmar, Burma. The mud was thick and deep. When I stepped on the mud I would sink up to my shins in the cloying earth. But to the eye it looked for all the world like a vast dry lake bed or desert which was completely devoid of moisture. I used one image of the mud, one of the boat, and a separate sky image to create the composite image of a boat stranded in a dry, desert setting. Where has ll the water gone? This image is a warning about conserving our resources, taking responsibility of sustainable living, and providing better custodianship of our planet. It can be used to draw attention to many ecological issues and environmental concerns. There is ample room to add headlines and body copy, and to crop the image as a vertical, square, or horizontal image.
