Hundreds of horsemen thundered across the plain to engage in mock battles with swords, shields, lances and bows and arrows. As the fighting intensified the combatants actually began to disappear in the thick dust from the horses hooves.
The fighting in this mock historical Mongolian battle appeared very realistic with the soldiers sneaking up behind each other for strategic sword thrusts surprising the injured party in the midst of sword play with other foes. It seems as if every Mongolian, men and women, grow up riding horses and it showed. The warriors were obviously skilled horsemen and the pageant was something to behold!
Genghis Khan began what became the largest contiguous empire in human history covering most of Eurasia, China, Korea, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and even the Middle East. Genghis Khan promoted religious tolerance, introduced currency, and promoted the written word (the Uyghur script). When he died in 1227 (1162-1227) he was buried in an unmarked grave in Mongolia. Genghis Khan was doubtless one of the greatest of all emperors in all of history.
