In this funny lion photo the king of beasts sits surrounded by a clowder of cats. A "clowder" is the scientific name for a group of cats. In this image all of the cats, lion included, are standing on a white background giving the image a clean modern look and making for unlimited copy space and maximum cropping possibilities. The image is available for licensing as a stock photo and for use in wall decor as a fine art print.
The cats were photographed over the years for greeting card images and the lion was photographed in my studio for the creation of conceptual stock photos. Photographing A Lion In The Studio
When I first queried the animal trainer, Stephanie Taunton of Bow Wow Productions, about renting lion, and I asked how much she told me $5,000.00 I asked how long I would have the lion for that price. She answered "As long as he wants." Fair enough. Turned out to be about 45 minutes. There were a number of rules we had to abide by for the shoot. Stephanie told me we couldn't have sand bags in the studio. Most photo studios have small sand bags to steady the light stands and such. I asked her why not? She answered that the lion might thing they were rodents and would have to kill us to keep them for himself. Fine...no sand bags. She also told us not to separate from the pack, and not to go pick up any of the chunks of beef that she would incentivizing him with if one of the pieces were to be be knocked across the studio. Oh yeah, and she warned us to cover anything we didn't want to get "marked" as he could spray up to fifteen feet. Duly noted!
The shoot went off without a hitch and we now have a library of lion images to draw upon as we create new lion imagery.
