A Blast From The Past

I came across this image, which I created back in 1994.

Recently I discovered that most of my 1,200 plus image archive CDs and DVDs won’t mount anymore. Oops. Not to worry, most of the images are still available to me on the various hard drives I have that do still work. But with the discovery that so many of my archives wouldn’t open I went through the ones that would still work to see if there was anything I needed to transfer to my hard drives. I came across this image, which I created back in 1994…and never did anything with. So I uploaded it to Getty Images. It will be interesting to see if it results in any sales…I bet it will…though with a typical Getty sale bringing me less than a dollar…I don’t expect to profit greatly from the upload. We shall see.

The image represents the transition from analog art production to digital art production. Photoshop was still pretty new to the scene and few photographers were using it. Typesetting businesses were dropping like flies and pre-press production houses were scrambling to deal with the changing production landscape. I knew of one case in which a production house was using Photoshop to do their retouching, but telling clients they were using a scitex system…and billing them $350.00 and hour for the work.

Ah…the good old days!
